Afarin
Afarin's enamel pieces are 18K gold jewelry with vitreous enamel inlay. Vitreous enamel is powdered glass mixed with metal-oxide pigments for color and fluxes so it melts cleanly. It is applied to 18K gold and fired in a kiln at 1380-1560 degrees Fahrenheit until the glass melts, flows, and fuses permanently to the gold. After the last fire, the surface is ground/stoned flush with the gold (or left slightly recessed) and polished to the high-gloss finish Afarin pieces show. The result is a hard, glass-like surface bonded to the gold. It is far more durable and colorfast than paint or resin, which is why Afarin can pair it with diamonds in everyday-wear pieces. Diamonds are set after enameling so the stones and settings are not affected by the kiln heat. Each piece is marked with its diamond total weight—an extra step Afarin takes to stand behind the quality of their materials and work.
